Kazakhstan urges compliance with international humanitarian law

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, alongside the leaders of Brazil, Jordan, China, France, and South Africa, as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has issued a joint statement calling for action to preserve humanity in war. The statement was made as part of the promotion of the Global Initiative to galvanize political commitment to international humanitarian law (IHL), as reported by the Kazakh Foreign Ministry. The heads of state expressed alarm over large-scale violations of IHL in global conflicts and the significant human suffering they cause. They urged all countries and parties to armed conflicts to comply with the rules protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as medical and humanitarian workers. The leaders also announced that a high-level meeting focused on preserving humanity in armed conflicts is scheduled to take place in 2026. The statement has been published in all six official UN languages, along with translations in Kazakh and Portuguese.
