Kazakhstan, UK expand strategic partnership

The Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, has ratified an agreement on strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom. The document aims to strengthen political and economic cooperation, as well as expand collaboration in key sectors. These include, in particular, attracting investment and implementing joint projects in energy, renewable energy, digitalization, agriculture, mining, and the green economy. Kazakhstan intends to adopt British experience in green technologies to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. In addition, the agreement provides for the opening of branches of British universities, the expansion of student and faculty exchanges, and the launch of scientific and cultural projects. According to MPs, the document brings bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level and establishes a long-term foundation for further partnership.

«The UK is one of the largest investors in Kazakhstan’s economy, having invested more than $23 billion in direct investments. The ratification of the Agreement will strengthen the country’s reputation as a reliable partner with a predictable legal environment and principles of open business conduct. For the regions, this means an inflow of capital, as well as opportunities to establish direct cooperation with British companies and universities,» noted Gennady Shipovskikh, a member of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.

Kazakhstan, Tajikistan strengthen cooperation

Senate members also ratified another important international document - a treaty on allied relations between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. It is aimed at deepening cooperation across several areas, from politics and the economy to security and the humanitarian sphere. The document formalizes the transition of bilateral relations to the level of an alliance. The countries also intend to strengthen cooperation in the water and energy sector, as well as in addressing modern challenges in Central Asia.
