Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan intend to increase bilateral
trade to $1 billion. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Chairman of the
Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov
discussed this goal during an informal meeting today. They also talked about
prospects for further strengthening their strategic partnership. Special
attention was given to expanding cooperation in the gas sector, particularly
Kazakhstan’s participation in the development of the Galkynysh field with
foreign partners. The parties also explored transit and transport
opportunities. In this regard, the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway and the
Turkmenbashi-Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border highway play a key role in developing
the North-South route.
«It is encouraging to see the successful development of
cooperation between our countries. Plans include strategically significant
projects, and this work will be crucial in ensuring the continued high-quality
development of our economic partnership,» Tokayev said.
The Head of State also congratulated Gurbanguly
Berdimuhamedov on the start of the International Year of Peace and Trust. He
noted that this initiative, supported by the UN, reflects Turkmenistan’s high
international standing. In turn, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called Kazakhstan
one of Turkmenistan’s key strategic partners.
«Based on our strategy, we will continue to develop mutual
relations and cooperation, which have already been established in politics,
trade and economic spheres, as well as in cultural and humanitarian matters,» Berdimuhamedov
said.
The President of Kazakhstan and the Chairman of the Halk
Maslahaty of Turkmenistan visited the SPK Turkistan industrial park, where six
investment projects worth 36.5 billion tenge are being implemented. The
enterprises produce drip irrigation systems, tractors, and industrial
refrigerators. The next phase includes the construction of 112 facilities and
the launch of 13 new projects totaling nearly 40 billion tenge. Additionally,
