Kazakhstan is developing a National Water Resources Information System, scheduled for launch next year. The system will compile data on surface and groundwater, hydraulic structures, and other facilities. Once implemented, a unified platform for water resource accounting and management will also be created. The system will use artificial intelligence and satellite monitoring data to determine the country’s water balance, assess the actual water needs of the economy and population, analyze and monitor resource usage, and ensure faster responses to emergencies. The project is being developed with grant funding from the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
«The system must be commissioned in 2026. Every citizen should have the opportunity to access it and obtain reliable information about the state of the country’s water resources. Achieving this will require consistent and comprehensive daily work. The data entered by employees of the Republican State Enterprise Kazvodkhoz and the basin inspectorates must be accurate. This matter must be approached with the utmost responsibility,» said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
