Kazakhstan to launch digital platform for copyright protection

Kazakh music is returning to social media following a new agreement between Meta and the Kazakhstan Authors’ Society. According to the Ministry of Justice, the deal will be in effect for two years. Officials say the protection of local music content in the digital space will benefit both artists and users who feature their tracks in videos. In another development for authors and rights holders, Kazakhstan plans to launch a digital platform that uses artificial intelligence to protect copyright. The system will enable online tracking of how works are used — from contract signing to the collection, distribution, and payment of royalties.

«The goal of the platform is to bring together all parties who use or plan to use copyrighted content in their activities. The aim is to create a comprehensive digital registry of authors, performers, and producers, as well as users who have signed agreements with a Collective Management Organization. These registries will make it possible to clearly identify who is legally using copyrighted works,» said Sholpan Abdreyeva, Chairperson of the Intellectual Property Rights Committee, Kazakh Ministry of Justice.
