Elections to the unicameral Kurultai will take place in August, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced today. He emphasized the importance of informing the public and political parties in advance about key state processes. The President stated that the corresponding decree will be signed immediately after July 1, when the new Constitution comes into force. According to Tokayev, this provides political parties with a clear planning horizon and sufficient time to prepare for the election campaign and voter outreach. It should be recalled that on March 15, at a nationwide referendum, Kazakh citizens supported the adoption of a new Constitution and the transition to a unicameral Kurultai.
«Political parties will have sufficient time - around
five months - to carry out the necessary voter outreach. The elections to the
Kurultai will mark the beginning of a large-scale transformation of
Kazakhstan’s entire political system. At the same time, as I have repeatedly
noted, it is crucial that the ongoing political and economic reforms are
closely aligned with positive changes in societal attitudes,» Tokayev said.
