The construction of Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant was
launched near the village of Ulken in the Almaty region. The event was attended
by Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency Chairman Almassadam Satkaliyev and Director
General of Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev. The ceremony marks the start
of engineering and survey work - a key stage in preparations for building the
plant. This phase will last about a year and a half. Specialists will assess groundwater
availability and confirm the absence of geological faults at the construction
site. According to Satkaliyev, the total investment will amount to around $15
billion.
