Kazakhstan and France are set to engage in
a comprehensive study of the Ile-Balkhash basin. To this end, the parties are
set to sign a corresponding memorandum and a trilateral agreement. Joint work will be carried out by the Kazakh
Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in collaboration with the French
Development Agency (AFD) and the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM).
The parties will also cooperate in monitoring and exploring groundwater. This
was discussed during a meeting between the Kazakh Minister of Water Resources
and Irrigation and the French Ambassador to Kazakhstan. Notably, the countries plan
to discuss the agreements at the One Water Summit, which will be held jointly
in December.
«At the One Water
Summit, we will address the issue of preserving the water bodies in Kazakhstan,
specifically the Caspian Sea, Balkhash Lake, and the Northern Aral Sea. I can
say that we have established closer ties with our counterparts from France. Additionally,
during the state visit, we would like to jointly sign two memoranda. I believe
this will provide a significant impetus for the continuation of our mutually
beneficial cooperation,» noted Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Kazakh Minister of Water
Resources and Irrigation.
Notably, French
companies are also ready to participate in projects in Kazakhstan for the
construction and reconstruction of reservoirs, canals, and other facilities. There
is also interest from enterprises involved in water resource management.
