Kazakhstan’s new Constitution is transforming the political system by strengthening democratic mechanisms of governance through broader public participation in the country’s life. According to Mazhilis member Marat Bashimov, the amendments enhance the role of public institutions, popular representation, and open dialogue between the government and society. He also emphasized the importance of judicial reforms aimed at protecting citizens’ interests and increasing trust in the legal system. This course aligns with democratic principles and continues the political reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
«Important procedural safeguards are being
introduced in the field of human rights protection, including principles
similar to the Miranda rule. Protection of citizens’ procedural, digital, and
labor rights is being strengthened. Public consciousness is changing as well, with
a growing understanding of the priority of human rights, the rule of law, and
democratic values. The main goal of the new Constitution is to elevate human
rights protection to a
higher level and firmly embed it in
practice,» noted Marat Bashimov, a member of the Mazhilis, the
Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament.
