Kazakhstan’s GDP up 3% since start of year

The Government of Kazakhstan aims to ensure sustainable economic growth of over 5% by the end of the year. Meanwhile, GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026 stood at 3%. The non-resource sector has become the main driver of the national economy. According to the Ministry of National Economy, the highest growth rates were recorded in construction, transport, and manufacturing. The manufacturing sector grew by 8.5% over the past three months. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov emphasized the importance of fully mobilizing all available reserves in non-resource sectors.

«We must focus on practical actions – implementing major industrial and infrastructure projects and deploying artificial intelligence across all sectors. For the second year in a row, the share of manufacturing in the economy has exceeded that of the extractive sector. Nevertheless, additional measures are needed to stimulate the real sector. I instruct the Ministry of Industry and Construction to develop, within one month, a set of incentive measures to support the metallurgical and chemical industries, expand the product range, and increase capacity utilization,» Bektenov said.

«In the light industry sector, production increased by 51.1%, driven by higher output of textiles, clothing, and leather goods. In the construction materials sector, production rose by 37.1% due to increased output of ready-mix concrete, construction mortars, lime, refractory products, cement, and prefabricated concrete structures. In the chemical industry, production grew by 2.4%, supported by higher output of nitrogen fertilizers and yellow phosphorus,» said Yersaiyn Nagaspayev, Kazakh Minister of Industry and Construction.
