Kazakhstan, Russia to jointly combat flooding

Kazakh specialists visited Orenburg to discuss joint flood control measures with their Russian counterparts, exchanging hydrological data and analyzing the situation. Both sides also agreed to increase the water discharge from the Iriklinsky reservoir into the Ural River (Zhaiyk), raising the flow from 108 to 130 cubic meters per second. Experts say there is no risk of flooding, and the additional water volume will be an important resource for the agro-industrial complex.

«According to preliminary forecasts, the water level is expected to rise to 6-6.5 meters. It is currently being directed to the region. The discharge rate has increased from 60 to 108 cubic meters per second, which is very good, as water from the Zhaiyk River flows freely into reservoirs in the southern districts of the region,» said Nariman Turegaliyev, Governor of the West Kazakhstan region.
