In Petropavl, service members and cadets of the National
Guard congratulated 98-year-old war
veteran Fyodor Shcheglov on the 80th anniversary of Victory. The group marched
in formation to the music of a military band outside his home, in a tribute
initiated by the soldiers and cadets themselves. Shcheglov shared wartime
memories with the younger generation. He was drafted in Königsberg and took
part in fierce battles, including an operation on the island of Palau. For his
bravery, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, and the
medal «For the Victory over Japan.»
«Thank you very much for your kindness. I am deeply grateful
to all of you,» Shcheglov said.
