Kazakhstan and Russia have agreed to exchange data on
transboundary rivers daily until the end of the flood season. The two countries
also share information on planned reservoir operations and forecasts for
expected water levels in the rivers. In Kazakhstan, specialists monitor rivers
and reservoirs around the clock. Additional reservoir capacity has been
prepared to receive and safely discharge floodwaters. A total of 240 kilometers
of riverbeds have been cleared, including the Yertis and Zhaiyk, which flow
through both countries. According to forecasts, March and April in Kazakhstan
are expected to be warm, with heavy precipitation, increasing the risk of
flooding.
