A conclusion regarding the saiga population control in Kazakhstan has not been made yet. The public sent a lot of proposals and appeals. Nevertheless, specialists intend to put an end to this issue only in October.
“For example, it was proposed to forcibly relocate saigas to other regions. Unfortunately, the scientific community recognized these methods as ineffective and unacceptable, because of the high risk of saigas’ deaths in an attempt to move them and a high probability of their return to their past habitat. Therefore, the issue has been dismissed,” said Kazakh Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Serikkali Brekeshev.
In the near future, a biological study of saiga ecology will be carried out in the country. 500 species will be tested and returned to their habitat. The relevant ministry notes that several options for regulating saiga numbers are currently being considered.
“The organization of sports and amateur hunting for the next year is currently on the agenda. It will be fee-paying hunting for saiga,” added Brekeshev.
