Kazakhstan is preparing for the flood
season. Over 1,500 hydraulic structures have been inspected across all regions
of the country. They should be ready for the safe discharge of meltwater in the
spring. All identified shortcomings have been addressed.
«Multifactorial surveys of 105 hydraulic
structures are also being conducted, which is 20 more than last year. In
addition, the Ministry, together with local authorities, has approved a document,
the Roadmap for 2025–2027 on sanitation, which includes deepening and cleaning
areas near settlements. A total of 51 river sections and one lake across 10
regions have been identified. The total length of the areas to be cleaned is
814 kilometers,» said Sergey Dobrynin, chief expert of the Hydraulic Structures
Department, Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
Large-scale works on modernization and
repair of reservoirs and other hydraulic structures began last year. Specifically,
the Aktobe and Kirov reservoirs and the Aksai canal have been reconstructed. In
addition, around 400 dams have been repaired in preparation for flood season in
16 regions of the country. Construction, reconstruction, and restoration of
hydraulic structures are also underway in 84 settlements in Akmola, Aktobe,
West Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, and Kostanai regions. This will
ensure the safety of about 400,000 people.
