Following the trails of nomads! Tourist routes to historical sites are being actively developed in Kazakhstan. Tourists and residents of the country are particularly interested in the fact that the powerful state – the Golden Horde – covered almost the entire territory of modern Kazakhstan. According to researchers, the domain of the Golden Horde extended from the eastern part of Taldykorgan in Kazakhstan to Astrakhan in Russia.
“A northern route of the Great Silk Road passed from the cities of Kailyk to Saksin through the territory of Kazakhstan. Through Zhetysu, cities on Syrdarya river to Ulshyk, which is modern Atyrau city, then to Saraishyk, the remains of which were preserved in Atyrau region, and to Saksin that is located on the Volga River,” said an historian Zhaksylyk Sabitov.
It is possible to plunge into the history of the Golden Horde by visiting tourist centers and museums in Ulytau. All the necessary infrastructure is created here to make the travel around the historical sites as comfortable as possible. In addition, many projects aimed at enabling residents to study deeply the history of their country are being promoted. This especially concerns the younger generation.
“Last year we and the “Atameken” National Chamber developed a roadmap that has such a concept as live lessons, which means a set of measures aimed at enabling children to study any subjects not inside stuffy classrooms, but in the fresh air on the territory of any historical site. This year, we are planning to conduct a number of such live lessons on the territory of Ulytau as well, following the trails of the Golden Horde’s history,” noted Yernur Kenzhebekov, Press Secretary of Kazakh Tourism National Company.
These lands preserve the history of the powerful medieval state. However, travelers may be interested not only in the Ulytau territory, but also in Atyrau region, where many khans of the Golden Horde were buried.
“This is where our statehood and people grow from, so to speak. If we take, in all areas, in terms of genetics, physical anthropology, folklore, political genesis, cultural genesis, we can say that the Kazakh Khanate is the direct successor of the Golden Horde and is completely dependent on the institutions that were established at that time,” added Sabitov.
Such tourist routes will attract both Kazakh and foreign travelers, experts believe. Moreover, they are confident that Kazakhstan has a great potential in terms of ethnic, historical and cultural tourism. If the country continues to develop infrastructure in memorable places, then business will create new interesting tours.
