Kazakhstan to accelerate restoration efforts in flood-affected regions

The Kazakh government keeps under constant control the restoration of housing following the floods. In this regard, the country’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with relevant ministers and local authorities. Notably, out of over 19,000 affected properties, 8,000 houses are deemed beyond repair. Currently, construction is underway for over 2,000 houses, alongside the purchase of 6,000 properties. Rapid construction progress has been observed in the North Kazakhstan region, where 200 new houses have already been completed, and in the Pavlodar region, which has seen the construction of five new houses. Additionally, 22 houses are set to be commissioned soon in the Kostanai region. Nevertheless, there are some schedule delays of 15-25 days in the West Kazakhstan, Aktobe, Akmola, and Atyrau regions. Bektenov instructed the regional governors to mobilize resources and personnel to expedite the efforts.

«There are serious indications that we are falling behind with the planned infrastructure timelines. Governors are instructed to mobilize personnel and equipment for each site. If there are insufficient resources in the regions, additional support will be provided. Sectoral ministries are tasked with updating construction completion schedules, including shortening timelines where necessary, and revisiting sites as needed. Deputy ministers should oversee these efforts on-site, while the Minister of Industry and Construction, in a principal role, will also be present in the regions,» said Bektenov.
