Kazakhstan plans to introduce new energy consumption regulations, in particular, energy efficient public procurement. It will ensure a reduction in energy consumption in government agencies, as well as give an impetus to the transformation of the domestic market of energy-consuming equipment. With this purpose, a corresponding bill is currently being developed. According to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, the document also prescribes the opening of a position of energy manager at large enterprises. At the same time, a number of other norms such as the establishment of energy consumption standards, monitoring over their compliance, benchmarking and issuing appropriate recommendations for energy efficiency are envisaged. Its main goal is to help reduce the energy intensity of GDP on the way to a ‘green economy’.
