President k. Tokayev signs law prohibiting sale of land to foreign nationals

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed amendments on land relations. On February 25 this year, he instructed to prohibit the sale of land to foreign nationals by law. The amendments provide for a ban on the lease and sale of lands to foreign nationals and stateless persons as well as foreign legal entities and legal entities of Kazakhstan with foreign participation. In addition, the terms of previously leased agricultural lands by citizens of foreign states and Kazakh companies with a foreign share cannot be extended and will be in possession only until the expiration of their use. This applies to both agricultural and afforestation sites. According to experts, the adoption of the law became another evidence of the effectiveness of the “hearing state” concept.
