Kazakhstan, France implement cultural projects

Nine cultural heritage preservation projects are being implemented in Kazakhstan in cooperation with the ALIPH Foundation and the European Union. They focus on restoring ancient sculptures at the National Museum of Arts in Almaty, training architects, art historians, and designers at the interdisciplinary school «Bölme», conducting manuscript restoration workshops at the National Library of Kazakhstan, and hosting a museology forum. Similar initiatives have also been launched in other Central Asian countries, bringing the total to 30. Funding from the EU and the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage totals €1.5 million.

«I came to Kazakhstan to observe the implementation of cultural heritage preservation projects that we launched several weeks ago together with our partners. We also exchanged new ideas for cooperation with our Kazakh partners, which we will discuss in greater detail in the coming weeks. Kazakhstan and our foundation are committed to working together to preserve cultural heritage,» said Valéry Freland, Executive Director of ALIPH.

«Our cultural cooperation is developing very actively. Two years ago, during President Tokayev’s state visit to France, a very important agreement was signed between the Margulan Institute and Inrap in the field of archaeology. Some projects are already being implemented. For example, there are active contacts between the Pompidou Centre in Paris and the contemporary art museum in Almaty. We hope that exhibits from the Pompidou Centre will be showcased in Almaty,» said French Ambassador to Kazakhstan Sylvain Guiaugué.
