The long-awaited premiere of the international music competition Silk Way Star aired last weekend on the Jibek Joly/Silk Way TV channel. Contestants from 12 countries took the stage, performing songs in their native languages. Opening the show was Batyrkhan Malikov, also known as Alem, who represented Kazakhstan in the competition. He scored 112 out of a possible 132 points, placing seventh. The first episode’s winner was Yazmin Aziz from Malaysia with 126 points. Second place went to Madinabonu Adilova from Uzbekistan, while third place was claimed by Dovran Shammyev from Turkmenistan. Nine more episodes remain before the grand finale, which will take place on November 22.

Meanwhile, the participants of Silk Way Star have been enjoying not only the competition but also the cultural life of the capital. Last Sunday, together with the jury members, they attended a concert by the legendary pop group Backstreet Boys in Astana. The event drew more than 25,000 spectators, half of them traveling from 45 countries, including Germany, France, Türkiye, Finland, Lithuania, Greece, Azerbaijan, and Russia. The show was opened by singer Alem.
«Of course, I’m feeling amazing because this is a Backstreet Boys concert and me and my mother always wanted to watch this concert. So, I’m so excited and I think we are so lucky. And I heard that Alem’s gonna perform on this stage and I want to root for and to watch Alem’s performance. Oh my God, I can’t wait. Yeah, I’m waiting for Alem,» said Michelle Joseph, a Silk Way Star contestant from Mongolia.

year.
