Kazakhstan is stepping up preparations for this year’s
sowing campaign. In the new agricultural season, the total sown area in the
country will amount to about 24 million hectares, which is 180,000 hectares
more than last year. At the same time, diversification of the crop structure is
continuing - the area under grain crops will be reduced to 16 million hectares,
including a 100,000-hectare reduction in wheat plantings. Meanwhile, the area
planted with corn and oilseed crops will be increased by 55,000 hectares. To
ensure stable sowing operations, farmers are being supported in advance with
concessional financing and resources: around 1,700 loan applications totaling
more than 240 billion tenge have already been submitted, and deliveries of
discounted diesel fuel are planned to begin in February. The goal is to carry
out the sowing campaign within optimal timeframes, taking into account climatic
conditions and the rational use of resources. The Ministries of Agriculture and
of Water Resources and Irrigation have been tasked with developing a detailed
plan for the use of agricultural land, including the application of modern
irrigation and watering methods.
