A large-scale geological exploration project powered
by artificial intelligence is being launched in Kazakhstan. The Big Data
initiative is designed to collect and analyze vast amounts of information and
is being implemented using the methodology developed in the UAE. The pilot
phase has been completed, and the project has now officially begun. According
to the relevant ministry, implementation will continue until 2028. The project
will result in a comprehensive, fully structured national geodata system. At
the same time, Kazakhstan is developing a National Digital Geological
Information Fund. To date, more than 80% of all materials and reports produced
over the past 80 years have been scanned, with a full transition to digital
format expected by the end of 2026. Additionally, a Unified Subsoil Use
Platform has been established to ensure a fully digital workflow, from
application submission to license issuance. This year, over 5,500 contracts and
licenses have been digitized, and electronic auctions totaling 45 billion tenge
have been conducted.
«The Unified Platform provides access to more than
66,000 geological reports. At the same time, the digitization of primary
geological data is underway. To date, over 73% of this information has been
converted into digital format. By the end of the year, 97% of the data is
expected to be digitized, with full completion planned for 2026,» said Iran Sharkhan, Kazakh Vice Minister
of Industry and Construction.
A modern National Geolaboratory will be established in the capital as part of the geological cluster. The center will conduct research to implement advanced scientific methods in geological exploration. This will help improve the accuracy of analyses, accelerate the development of mineral deposits, and enhance the investment appeal of the country’s mineral resources sector. Construction of the geolaboratory is set to begin next year. These and other directives aimed at developing the industry were issued by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov at a government meeting.
«I instruct the Ministry of Industry, in
collaboration with the Ministries of Finance and Artificial Intelligence and
the National Geological Service, to complete the digitization of historical
data by the end of next year. This will streamline access to both historical
and current geological information in Kazakhstan and facilitate the
implementation of projects related to investment promotion, exploration, and
mineral deposit development. The Ministry of Industry, together with relevant
government agencies, must ensure the integration of spatial data within the
Unified Subsoil Use Platform by the end of the first half of 2026,» Bektenov
said.
