Expert: AI industry needs international standards

Artificial intelligence is already changing many sectors, including transportation, medicine, healthcare, and business. Against this backdrop, the issue of developing sustainable and effective standards in the field of AI is becoming increasingly important. In an interview with our TV channel, James Wood, Director of Communications at the International Electrotechnical Commission, noted that international standards today primarily ensure the safety of technologies, as well as the compatibility and interoperability of different systems. However, according to him, this is no longer sufficient. The expert emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence requires a new approach in which standards take into account both technical requirements and the impact of these technologies on people, as they are becoming ever more deeply integrated into everyday life.

«I think Kazakhstan and the delegates here understand the opportunity and also the challenge presented by AI. And we have a real opportunity to ensure that we’re building standards and AI standards to meet that challenge. And, of course, by collaborating with our members and having our members shape the standards that we work on through the national committees and technical committees is a really important part of making sure that standards are fit for purpose in an AI-driven world,» noted James Wood, Director of Communications, International Electrotechnical Commission.
