Kazakhstan and Oman are demonstrating positive momentum in their cooperation. Investments from this Arab state in the country have exceeded $260 million, and trade turnover is also increasing. However, the potential goes far beyond the current figures, as the two countries have much to offer each other. This is especially true in the transport and logistics sector, given Oman’s strategic location in the Persian Gulf. Its seaports connect Africa, Europe, and Asia, facilitating Kazakh goods’ access to new markets. These issues will be discussed at the first meeting of the intergovernmental commission, which is expected to be held in Muscat in the near future, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Kuantyrov announced during the celebration of the National Day of the Sultanate of Oman in Astana. According to the country’s Ambassador, Mohammed Al Bahrani, bilateral dialogue has strengthened significantly over the past two years. Work is currently underway to establish a joint Kazakhstan–Oman investment fund, while the direct Almaty–Muscat flight and the mutual 30-day visa-free regime are helping to boost business and tourism ties.
«The development of bilateral relations reflects the shared vision and political will of the leadership of our countries - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said. There is a strong mutual interest in strengthening the partnership at the highest level, and we are confident in its promising future. An agreement on the avoidance of double taxation has been signed between our countries, creating favorable conditions for the development of business ties. The scope of cooperation spans a wide range of promising areas, from artificial intelligence and cybersecurity technologies to the expansion of mutual trade,» noted Mohammed Al Bahrani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Kazakhstan.
«If we are talking
about the development of ties in the Persian Gulf in general, then Oman is
undoubtedly one of the relatively
untapped areas for cooperation alongside other countries in the Gulf. They have
several operating ports, and we are currently studying all of this actively. As I mentioned earlier, the initial results
will become clear following the work of the first intergovernmental commission,»
said Kazakh Deputy Foreign
Minister Alibek Kuantyrov.
