Today, the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament,
ratified two documents concerning Kazakhstan's participation in the United
Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission. The Memorandum of Understanding between the
Kazakh Government and the UN, along with the Agreement, outline the legal and
organizational framework for such activities, as well as the procedures for
providing personnel and equipment, and the mechanisms for funding, material
support, and cost reimbursement. Thus, under the memorandum, the UN undertakes
to compensate for the costs associated with the country's participation in the
mission.
«For Kazakhstan, a permanent and reliable partner of the UN,
this is an opportunity to join the international peacekeeping mission and make
a contribution. The laws reviewed today ensure further improvement of the legal
framework and conditions for this responsible activity. Overall, we hope that
the approval of these laws will strengthen Kazakhstan's international authority
and expand defense cooperation,» said Senate Chairperson Maulen Ashimbayev.
The Senate members also approved the Agreement on measures
to ensure the parallel operation of the unified power systems of Kazakhstan and
Russia. The document will help expand mutually beneficial cooperation between
the parties in the electricity sector and reduce the capacity deficit in
Kazakhstan’s energy systems.
