Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev welcomed the agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia to hold
negotiations of Foreign Ministers on the preparation of a peace treaty in
Kazakhstan, at the suggestion of the Kazakh side. In his statement, the Head of
State emphasized the symbolism of holding this important event in Almaty, where
in December 1991 the historic Alma-Ata Declaration was signed. It laid the
foundation for independent development of CIS countries and endorsed the
principles of determining interstate borders. The upcoming meeting will
contribute to the practical implementation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian
agreements and will facilitate the soonest establishment of a lasting and
durable peace in the South Caucasus, President Tokayev noted.
