Kazakhstan accounts for 80% of Austria–Central Asia trade

Kazakhstan remains Austria’s main economic partner in Central Asia. The country accounts for more than 80% of Vienna’s trade turnover with the entire region. This was stated during a meeting between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, and Federal Minister of the Interior of Austria, Gerhard Karner. The Head of State emphasized that Vienna remains a reliable and long-standing strategic partner for Astana. Austrian investors have already invested more than $3 billion in Kazakhstan’s economy. An additional boost to cooperation will be provided by the visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic passports and the readmission agreement, which entered into force on May 1. In turn, the Austrian side described Kazakhstan as a key partner in the region, noting the importance of cooperation not only in the economy but also in migration, security, and international policy.
