The first round of
double matches concluded at the ATP 250 Astana Open 2023. Kazakh tennis player
Aleksandr Nedovyesov successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the
world-class tournament. The leader of the men’s team of Kazakhstan partnered
with Ecuadorian tennis player Gonzalo Escobar, securing a confident 6:3 victory
over Sebastian Baez from Argentina and Bernabe Zapata Miralles from Spain. The
opponents for the winners of this match will be determined later. Nedovyesov
acknowledged the double responsibility of playing at home, expressing
unwavering hope for victory. During the post-match press conference, he noted
that there are no leaders in their duo, with both players being on an equal
level.
“I believe one of
the strengths of our pair is that we can easily switch roles and adapt to each
other. We don't have a distinct leader. In a duo, when one player is performing
well, they can take initiative, support their partner if things aren't going
smoothly, and so on. So, it is necessary to keep this balance in our game,” Nedovyesov
shared.
