Turkistan attracts
tourists from all over the world. The city’s unique authentic atmosphere and
ancient traditions come alive for visitors. In celebration of Nauryz, the city
hosted archery competitions, the Asian Cup Tenge Ilu, the Assyk Atu World Cup, and a national audaryspak
tournament.
More than 1,000 people played assyk atu at the same time, setting a new national record in Kazakhstan. The event brought together around 40 athletes from 11 countries, including Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Türkiye.
«What impressed me most was how much the city has changed in recent years, visible in its modern buildings, cutting-edge architecture, and touches of Eastern and Asian design,» said Kristina Karamyshina, President of Kok-Boru and National Sport Federation of Russia.
Turkistan, the spiritual capital of the Turkic world, also hosted the World Kokpar Championship. More than 200 riders from nine countries participated in the spectacular equestrian competition. The prize fund totaled 30 million tenge. The event coincided with the opening of a new hippodrome in Turkistan.
«I have visited Kazakhstan 47 times, and this is my
third trip to Turkistan. I truly enjoy your country and always come here with
great pleasure. I’m especially impressed by the large-scale traditional sports
competitions held in honor of Nauryz. Today, our athletes are among the
participants. In Hungary, we are also actively developing equestrian sports,
including kokpar, so this spirit feels very close to us,» said István Bencze, President of the Hungarian
Ethnosport Federation.
