Maulen Ashimbayev, the Speaker of the Senate, the
Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, participated in the tenth Global Forum of
the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) during his visit to Portugal. Forum
participants exchanged views on improving approaches to addressing humanity's
pressing challenges. The Head of the Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of
World and Traditional Religions, Ashimbayev, outlined the approaches promoted
by Kazakhstan to advance the ideas of peace and tolerance. He noted that Kazakhstan, as a member of the
Group of Friends of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, contributes to the
development and implementation of the organization’s initiatives. The Congress
of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions represents Kazakhstan’s
contribution to global efforts in developing intercultural and interreligious
dialogue.
«As President of
Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has stated, the world urgently needs a new
global movement for peace. In this context, it is essential to unite the
efforts of influential public figures, religious leaders and political leaders
to strengthen peace, harmony and mutual trust,» Ashimbayev noted.
Senate Speaker meets with
UN Secretary-General
On the same day, the
Chairperson of the Kazakh Senate met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres,
who expressed his readiness to continue supporting Kazakhstan’s efforts aimed
at ensuring peace and stability on a global scale.
