The Kazakh Mazhilis approved the ratification of an agreement on the delimitation of state borders with Turkmenistan in the Caspian Sea. This means the delineation of the border line between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and the delimitation of adjacent sections of fishing zones. The adoption of the agreement will eliminate possible prerequisites for the emergence of disputes on the seabed delimitation and will increase the investment attractiveness of the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea. It will also provide favorable conditions for the exercise of sovereign rights over subsoil use and harvesting aquatic biological resources. The agreement was concluded in Ashgabat on October 25 last year.
“The agreement will complete the delimitation process of the state’s southern borders and will become the first-ever document that legally sets the state boundaries on the Caspian Sea between the coastal countries. Turkmenistan ratified the agreement on April 17, 2022,” Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi said.
