Kazakh President participates in SCO Plus summit

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the SCO Plus summit, which focused on regional security and sustainable development. As he emphasized, no country can tackle today’s challenges alone, and therefore the SCO should launch a broad dialogue in defense of peace. Only joint efforts can prevent armed conflicts from reaching the point of no return, he stated. Tokayev also called for reform of the United Nations, particularly its key body the Security Council. He drew attention to pressing environmental issues, including the situation in the Caspian Sea, suggesting it become a priority for long-term consultations within the SCO. Tokayev also announced that a Regional Environmental Summit will be held in Astana in April in partnership with the UN.
