Kazakh President meets with heads of foreign universities

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a series of meetings with the heads of foreign universities. Duan Peng, President of Beijing Language and Culture University, briefed the Head of State on prospects for implementing joint projects in applied linguistics and digital learning. The opening of the university’s branch in Astana will serve as an intellectual bridge for cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.


During his meeting with MEPhI Rector Vladimir Shevchenko, President Tokayev emphasized the strategic importance of nuclear energy for the country. Notably, a branch of the university was opened in Almaty in 2022. The university is recognized as one of the world’s leaders in the development of nuclear science.


The Head of State received Chairman of the Woosong Educational Foundation Sung Kyung Kim. During the meeting, they discussed the development of human capital, improving the quality of the education system, and training specialists in the fields of information technology and artificial intelligence. Notably, a branch of Woosong University has been opened in Turkistan.


The Head of State discussed the training of specialists for various industries with Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, noting that the university, one of the United Kingdom’s leading research institutions, is of considerable interest to Kazakhstan.


The Kazakh President also met with Anatoly Torkunov, Rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. During the conversation, the Head of State welcomed the opening of the university’s branch at the Gumilyov Eurasian National University, where the first 100 students have already begun their studies.
