Kazakh President holds meeting at Financial Monitoring Agency

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting at the Financial Monitoring Agency, which now operates as an independent body and plays a key role in ensuring Kazakhstan’s economic and national security. The state is taking all necessary measures to guarantee the Agency’s effective operation. Tokayev also highlighted the active development of international cooperation. In particular, Kazakhstan has successfully undergone an assessment by the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering and currently represents the Eurasian region within the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units.

«Constructive partnerships have been established with 20 major cryptocurrency exchanges. For the first time in Central Asia, a dedicated blockchain analytics unit, Crypton, has been created. Last year, around 200 companies involved in illegal cash-out schemes were exposed, with total turnover exceeding 500 billion tenge. More than 80 organized criminal groups and over 100 financial pyramids were dismantled. All of these measures undoubtedly contribute to strengthening the country’s economic securityTokayev said.

The President also stressed the need for large-scale adoption of modern digital approaches and AI systems in the Agency’s operations. This is particularly important amid Kazakhstan’s ongoing economic transformation. In addition, Tokayev called for a review of the Agency’s engagement with entrepreneurs and for intensified efforts to combat the shadow economy. However, he noted that a number of complex challenges still remain.

«We are building a Just, Safe, Strong, Clean, and Progressive Kazakhstan. The country has entered a decisive stage of large-scale transformation. A Constitutional reform is underway, with a special commission currently working intensively on this process. Based on a thorough analysis of all proposals, a draft of amendments will be prepared. After reviewing the draft, citizens will make the final decision through a nationwide referendum. As a result, a new socio-political system will be formed in Kazakhstan. At the same time, intensive efforts will continue to maintain stability, improve the investment climate, and enhance the well-being of the population,» the President added.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Tokayev presented state awards to employees of the Financial Monitoring Agency for exemplary service.
