Mazhilismen approved the draft law “On Ratification of the Treaty on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin of Goods of the EAEU". It clearly spelled out both the procedure for granting legal protection to trademarks and the conditions for interaction between national patent offices of states. In addition, the document will help reduce paperwork. According to experts, the new system will make it possible to obtain only one title of protection, which will be valid on the territory of five states. In general, the members of the Lower House of Kazakh Parliament note that the document should increase the level of protection of domestic entrepreneurs who intend to work with the Eurasian market.
“The introduction of the regional registration system for listed objects is provided for by the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union. One of the important factors for obtaining appropriate protection of industrial property is the priority date of the filed application. This system will allow establishing one priority date in five states simultaneously by filing one application,” said Marat Beketayev, Kazakh Minister of Justice.
