Kazakhstan’s economy showed a growth of 3.7 percent
over the first eight months of the year, as reported by the country’s Prime
Minister Olzhas Bektenov to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The sectors that
contributed the most were construction, transport and warehousing,
communication, trade, and manufacturing. The harvesting campaign is currently
underway in the country, with over 70 percent of the grain and leguminous crop
areas already harvested and more than 17 million tonnes of grain threshed. The
volume of preferential financing in the sector has increased, reaching 580
billion tenge. The Head of State was also briefed on the elimination of the
consequences of the floods. All those affected received social support and compensation
for property damage. Housing was purchased and provided, and over 2,500 new
houses were built. President Tokayev gave a number of instructions to further
unlock the country’s industrial potential and modernize the infrastructure.
