When building a nuclear power plant in
Kazakhstan, it is essential to ensure the maximum economic benefit for the
country. Special attention should be given to increasing domestic value,
localizing production, and transferring technologies when selecting suppliers.
These instructions were given by Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov at a
meeting on the development of nuclear energy and the creation of a nuclear
cluster. The Ministry of Energy reported to Bektenov on negotiations with
potential vendors and presented the projected electricity balance for
2025-2031. Notably, by 2035, the country is expected to have a power capacity
structure with new generation reaching 26.5 gigawatts, including through the
modernization of existing power plants with private investments. The meeting
also covered the prospects for the development of nuclear science and
educational programs aimed at training industry specialists.
