A new plant species has been
discovered in Kazakhstan by scientists from Makhambet Utemisov West Kazakhstan
University during a scientific expedition. The team conducted geological,
botanical, and biogeographical studies of the ecosystem and biodiversity of the
natural complex in the Inder District of the Atyrau region during the trip.
Researchers identified a flower, tentatively belonging to the Astragalus genus,
and will soon proceed with its description. Participants note that this
discovery represents a significant contribution to both national and global
science.
«This species is distinguished by
its unique fruit and inflorescence structure, as well as a specific type of
pubescence. It exhibits transitional characteristics between Astragalus varius and
Astragalus brachylobus. Therefore, we believe it is a new species that requires
further study. The scientific description of a new species typically takes
about two to three years. After thorough research, expert consultations, and
detailed morphological and genetic analysis, we will be able to assign a name
to it and include it in the global plant database,» said ¤Kazhmurat Akhmedenov,
Vice-Rector of the Makhambet Utemisov West Kazakhstan University.
