Norah Jeruto wins steeplechase gold at World Athletics Championships

Kazakhstan wins its first-ever gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. Norah Jeruto won the gold medal. The representative of the country became the winner in the 3,000 meters women’s steeplechase. Norah Jeruto is a native of Kenya. She moved to Kazakhstan in 2017 and received the official permission to represent the country at the 2022 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Kazakh athletes won two more gold medals in Tashkent at the competition in weightlifting among youths. The first prize in the weight class of 73 kg went to Yedige Yemberdi. As a result of the biathlon, he lifted 309 kg, and even broke the Asian record in the deadlift. Alisher Baiburov earned the second gold in the middleweight competition. The national team also won one bronze medal, as Yekaterina Alyakina took the third place in the snatch.

“To tell the truth, I'm so glad. The tournament was difficult. The Thai athlete was a strong opponent. He lifted 1-2 kilos less than I did. That was a good race. Now we will rest for a while, and next year we will compete with juniors,” said Yedige Yemberdi.
