Shymkent hosts theatre festival of Central Asian and Turkic-speaking countries

The theatre festival of Central Asian countries and Turkic-speaking states concluded in Shymkent. The cultural event was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Zhumat Shanin Theatre, one of the founders of Kazakh national professional theatre arts. Over the course of a week, audiences enjoyed the best works from leading creative teams from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Tatarstan, and Azerbaijan. Nine productions were showcased, featuring works by Gabit Musrepov, Chinghiz Aitmatov, Alisher Navoi, and other renowned playwrights. The international jury awarded the best ensemble cast to the play Ulpan, performed by the Gabit Musrepov Kazakh State Academic Theatre for Children and Youth.

«You are all familiar with the work Ulpan. At the festival, it was not shown in its classic form. Director Gulnaz Balpeissova envisioned it in her own way, presenting a modern interpretation,» said Yerkin Abdreshov, actor at the Kazakh State Academic Theatre for Children and Youth.
