Kazakh government to establish special commission for nuclear power plant construction

Kazakhstan is set to establish a special government commission for the construction of a nuclear power plant. The commission will negotiate with all potential suppliers and prepare recommendations for the government leadership to consider at the Energy Council under the President of Kazakhstan. Additionally, consultants on financial, economic, legal, and technical matters will be engaged.

«Preliminary consultations have already commenced. Meetings and visits to China and South Korea have taken place. We are outlining the areas in which we seek specific answers from our potential vendors. These areas include the cost of electricity, the cost of construction, and guarantees for timely completion within budget, as well as safety considerations, the overall social package, financial assurances, and the localization of fuel production,» said Kazakh Minister of Energy Almassadam Satkaliyev.
