Kazakh Emergency Situations Ministry: almost 1,000 people evacuated due to floods

About 1,000 people were evacuated from the flooded regions of Kazakhstan. Half of them were placed in temporary accommodation centers, while the rest are now with their relatives. According to the situation center of the country’s Emergency Situations Ministry, the local authorities have prepared special evacuation centers for this purpose. To date, a commission has been set up to calculate the damage caused by the floods.

“The most difficult situation is in Aktobe and West Kazakhstan regions. In particular, additional forces and means of the Emergency Situations Departments of the Mangystau and Atyrau regions were sent to the west of the country. They’re currently operating there,” said Zhomart Askarov, Deputy Head of the Emergency Response Department, the Kazakh Emergency Situations Ministry.

However, the threat of flooding was removed from 340 settlements in Kazakhstan and the danger was minimized in 385. At the same time, the potential threat remains for 285 villages.
