Residents and guests of the
Kazakh capital have the opportunity to create artworks in the style of street
art culture by participating in the Astana Graffiti Festival. This event gathers
both professional and aspiring artists at the Presidential Center in Astana,
where special stands are provided for graffiti artists to express their
creativity. Notably, this form of street art is not supported in many countries
and is even under prohibition in some. In Kazakhstan, street art is recognized
as an art form capable of revitalizing urban infrastructure.
«While classified as street art,
murals have now become popular on the streets of Astana, showcasing the
distinctiveness of our architectural designs. This form of artistic expression
is embraced not only by the youth but also by older generations, as these
painted walls on buildings contribute to revitalizing the city’s appearance and
fostering a unique urban spirit,» said Botagoz Kaipоva, Deputy Director of the
Presidential Center of Kazakhstan.
As part of the graffiti
festival, aimed at generating interesting ideas and unique art solutions,
renowned domestic artists are scheduled to conduct masterclasses, lectures, and
presentations on various types of visual arts.
«For me, graffiti is a form of
self-expression. It is my favorite thing to do, and it brings me immense
pleasure. Education does not play as significant a role compared to experience
and personal desire,» said festival participant Ulyana Evdokimova.
