The biggest sporting event of the
quadrennium has come to an end in Paris. Millions of enthusiasts all around the
world enjoyed the 2024 Summer Olympics, which took place in 39 venues, from
Paris to Tahiti. Renowned champions defended their titles, while newcomers
demonstrated great performances. It is worth noting that Uzbekistan made a
splash by winning five gold medals in boxing, an achievement that had not been
witnessed for some time. Throughout the Games, there was a spirit of mutual
support among all Central Asian countries.
Meanwhile, the final competitions
in some sports recently took place. The last athlete to represent Kazakhstan
was wrestler Alisher Yergali in the 97-kilogram weight category. He competed in
the repechage round for the bronze medal but lost to his Iranian opponent.
Currently, the national team of Kazakhstan has secured seven medals of various
denominations. Notably, the triumphant victory of Yeldos Smetov became the
first in the history of national judo. Kazakh gymnast Nariman Kurbanov,
Greco-Roman wrestler Demeu Zhadrayev and boxer Nurbek Oralbay earned silver
medals at the Paris Olympics. Judoka Gusman Kyrgyzbayev, boxer Nazym Kyzaibay
and the duo of Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev in shooting won bronze medals.
All Kazakh citizens could enjoy the victories of domestic athletes.

I would like to say that here at
the Summer Olympics I had the opportunity to speak with each of the medalists.
And as a journalist, I can say that these are not just triumphs of one day but
a lifelong journey to the pinnacle of the Olympics. Each of the athletes proved
the strength of their spirit, courage and sincere desire to raise the national
flag of Kazakhstan at the Olympics. And of course I want to say that we all
became participants of a new milestone in the history of world and Kazakh
sports.
