International ethnofestival of nomadic civilization held near Almaty

Residents and visitors of the Almaty metropolis had the opportunity to get acquainted with the rich culture of nomads at the Uly Dala - Koshpendiler Alemi (The Great Steppe - World of Nomads) international ethnofestival. On the territory of the Boraldai Saka burial mound archaeological complex, there was a vibrant ethnic village with 50 yurts, traditional Kazakh swings called Altybakan and a stone mill. The festival organizers, namely the Almaty mayor’s office, successfully recreated the atmosphere of ancient times. Over the course of two days, more than 10,000 attendees immersed themselves into the world of nomads of the Great Steppe. They had the chance to taste Kazakh national dishes, witness and take part in combat games, archery contests, aitys competitions, and handicraft masterclasses. The best ethno musicians and athletes from over 10 countries performed at the festival.
