After a sensational performance at the Olympic Games in Italy, Kazakhstan’s figure skater Mikhail Shaidorov entered the top three of the International Skating Union world rankings. He won Kazakhstan’s gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, securing a historic victory in the men’s singles event. After the short program, he was in fifth place, but in the free skate he took a risk, landing five quadruple jumps instead of the four originally planned. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Shaidorov on winning the championship title.
«I would like to thank everyone in Kazakhstan who
supported me throughout these Olympic Games. I’m especially grateful to the
Head of State for the tremendous support. I also want to thank everyone
involved – the specialists, coaches, and everyone who stood by me during this
challenging season. A special thank you to all Kazakhs people and fans – those in the stands,
those watching on screens, and those posting on social media. There were so
many memes!» Shaidorov shared.
