Chromium processing plant to be built in Kazakhstan

A plant for the deep processing of chromium is planned to be built in Kazakhstan. The project, set to be implemented in the Aktobe region, is expected to become part of a chemical and metallurgical cluster and help shift from raw material exports to the production of high value-added products. A major Chinese industrial company is ready to invest $500 million in the construction of a modern chemical complex. The parties have already held negotiations and signed a memorandum of cooperation. Once commissioned, the facility will be capable of producing up to 200,000 tonnes of output per year. The material is widely used in microelectronics, as well as in the aviation and space industries. According to experts, the new chromium processing plant in Kazakhstan could generate up to $1 billion annually.

«At present, China is the world’s largest producer and processor of chromium, accounting for about 50% of the market. Sufficient volumes of raw materials are required to implement this project. That is why we chose Kazakhstan, specifically the Aktobe region. We plan to build a modern plant in your country and produce and export high-tech products to other markets,» noted Tan Shuangquan, Executive Director, Sichuan Yinhe Chemical Co., Ltd.

«Investors plan to introduce advanced chromium deep processing technologies in the country, with no analogues in the CIS, Central Asia, or even worldwide. The implementation of this project will enable Kazakhstan to join the ranks of leading countries in deep chromium processing,» said Nurgazy Anuarbekov, Director of the Department, Kazakh Invest national company.
