In Astana, French Ambassador Sylvain Guiaugué presented awards to the families of Kazakh partisans who fought in the ranks of the European Resistance and in the liberation of France. Among those who received awards were relatives of Kazakh partisans Akhmet Bektayev, Bektemir Baizhanov, Nuranbai Baimuratov, Akhmet Subalov, and Uteuly Bissengaliyev. Notably, such a ceremony was held for the first time last year, when three frontline soldiers were posthumously honored. The initiative came from the Kazakh side – the Military History Museum conducted research and organized an exhibition about our compatriots who fought in the European Resistance. Following a meeting with representatives of diplomatic missions, including the French Ambassador, the parties agreed to continue joint work.
«I am happy that the French government and the French Embassy recognized my father’s service. I am deeply grateful. This medal is important for my children and grandchildren, so they know that their grandfather, their great-grandfather was a military man. After all, we are Kazakhs – we are fighters, warriors,» said Bolat Bissengaliyev, son of partisan Uteuly Bissengaliyev.
«Today, we presented
medals and certificates on behalf of the French Minister of Defense as a sign
of France’s deep gratitude to the Kazakh partisans. We hope to continue this
important and meaningful work in the coming years, maintaining dialogue with our Ministry of Defense
in order to present awards and certificates annually,» noted French Ambassador to Kazakhstan Sylvain Guiaugué.
