For the first time, China’s CNOOC corporation is investing in Kazakhstan’s geological exploration, joined by another major Chinese company, Sinopec. The update was reported to the Head of State by KazMunayGas Chairman Askhat Khassenov. At the same time, major players such as transnational Shell, Chevron, and British Petroleum are actively exploring fields in the Atyrau, Aktobe, and Mangystau regions. This year, seven wells are planned to be drilled as part of additional exploration of existing fields, three of which have already been completed. Work is also underway to expand oil transportation routes toward Azerbaijan, Germany, and Hungary. Overall, oil shipments have reached 49 million tons.
