For
the first time, China’s CNOOC corporation is investing in Kazakhstan’s
geological exploration, joined by another major Chinese company, Sinopec. The
update was reported to the Head of State by KazMunayGas Chairman Askhat
Khassenov. At the same time, major
players such as transnational Shell, Chevron, and British Petroleum are
actively exploring fields
in the Atyrau,
Aktobe,
and Mangystau regions. This year, seven wells are planned to be drilled as part of additional
exploration of existing fields, three of which have already been completed.
Work is also underway to expand oil transportation routes toward Azerbaijan,
Germany,
and Hungary. Overall, oil shipments have reached 49 million tons. President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to continue geological exploration and the
implementation of major investment projects.
